Deborah van der Beek: Out of old Mythologies

Most of van der Beek’s sculptures of humans and animals have animated, rugged surfaces. They vividly bring to life myths and legends, from Amazon warrior women to the outlaw Ned Kelly. Some newer works also mix up legends, old and new, their surfaces embedded with castaway objects that allude to ecological concerns.
